What                        The SAP Open is managed and operated by Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment and is one of 63 tournaments in 31 countries on 6 continents on the ATP World Tour. The ATP was launched on January 1, 1990 as the partnership of players and tournaments, replacing the former Men's Tennis Council as the governing body for the men's professional tennis circuit. There are 1.8 billion television viewers and 3.5 million people who annually attend ATP events. San Jose is the first American stop on the ATP World Tour.

The "Open" in SAP Open means that anyone could enter this tournament and win it. Prior to the main draw event, there is a pre-qualifying and a qualifying tournament. The pre-qualifying tournament is open to any male player of any playing level.

When                        The SAP Open will be played for the 121^st year, Monday, February 9 through Sunday, February 15, 2009.  It is the second oldest men’s professional tennis tournament in the United States.  Started in 1889 at Old Del Monte Lodge in Monterey, CA.  The tournament predates the French, Italian and Australian Opens.

                                    Prequalifying: February 2-6, 2009 (Los Gatos Swim and Racquet Club, Los Gatos, CA)

Where                      The HP Pavilion at San Jose, CA.  The event is the only North American ATP tournament hosted in a sports arena.
