The ATP World Tour was launched on January 1, 1990 as the partnership of players and tournaments, replacing the former Men's Tennis Council as the governing body for the men's professional tennis circuit. There are 1.8 billion television viewers and 3.5 million people who annually attend ATP World Tour events. San Jose is the first American stop on the ATP World Tour. WhenThe SAP Open will be played for the 124th year, beginning Monday, February 13 through Sunday, February 19, 2012. It is the second oldest men’s professional tennis tournament in the United States. Started in 1889 at Old Del Monte Lodge in Monterey, CA. The tournament predates the French, Italian and Australian Opens.
